Hello. I would like to let you know about another phone which could be suitable for your so. It’s the Openmoko Freerunner (http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Main_Page). There’s a very active community behind it’s develop, and currently the phone supports android 1.5. Android 2 it’s still under development (http://code.google.com/p/android-on-freerunner/). I think it could be interesting to develop Replicant on such phone.
Regards
urodelo
Hello urodelo,
thank you for your comment.
As long time free software activists we know the OpenMoko project and the Neo Freerunner mobile phone.
I (Graziano Sorbaioli) sent a polite email to an android-on-freerunner developer to present our project and ask for collaboration. The reponse was rude and he showed no interest in collaborating with us.
I also tried to discuss with them on irc and still no answer from anybody.
Sad but true.
If you think they could be interested, feel free to talk to them again. Maybe you will have more luck.
Thanks again.
Thanks for your answer.
I’ve just post a msg on their community mailing list. Let’s see if somebody will answer…
maybe I should ask for collaboration.(I have less chance to have rude answer as I am a coding person)
I’ve a freerunner too so we could in theory support it,
altough there would be some issues with it such as:
*the freerunner is armv4t => software(such as apk using native code which is for a version higher than armv4t) compatibility issue
*the freerunner froyo 2.2 branch is not usable yet as far as I understand, but we could use an older version
Denis.
I would be interested in Neo Freerunner support, too!
Have you mailed Serdar Dere, Graziano?
Hi,
How about supporting the GeeksPhone One [1]? IIUC it shouldn’t have closed source anymore [2].
Thanks,

Hi Urodelo,
I’m one of the people working on the android-on-freerunner project. I don’t know who you talked to via mail (did not find any trace from you on our mailinglist or my inbox) , but I’m sorry if anyone sounded rude. Knowing these people personally, I’m sure it was not intented.
I’m on our IRC channel rather sporadically (typically in the evenings after 20h CET). I’ll try to watch out for your nickname on the channel so we can talk.
Hope to talk to you soon.
Niels.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the correct mailinglist for the Android on Freerunner project:
https://groups.google.com/group/android-on-freerunner
Most of us are also scanning the OpenMoko Community mailinglists, but these are more Openmoko generic and not related to a specific project (SHR, QtMoko, AoF, H:1, Debian, …).
Talk to you soon.
Niels.
Good morning. Niels of the android on freerunner project has today answered to my post on openmoko community mailing list: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.handhelds.openmoko.community/58412
Please everybody, do NOT use comments as a chat board.
We have a beautiful mailing list for discussions like these and everybody is welcome to join:
http://lists.osuosl.org/mailman/listinfo/replicant
Thank you very much for all your wonderful comments and suggestions!
here’s the response I posted on the list:

As a DroidX user, I would really be more than happy to see Replicant ported to it in the future. My phone is rooted, and apparently it is indeed possible (albeit difficult) to get new ROM’s onto it. There are a few proof-of-concept videos out there, and I would be more than happy to liberate this beautiful phone with truly free software.
Hi Sean and thanks for your comment.
Join us on IRC and/or mailing list so more people can discuss about that and try to find a solution together!
Nokia 770, first nokia internet tablet, may be supported in a future?
thnks
Great job guys, i hope can install it in SE x10 mini soon. I like the idea to get a full operating sistem free. So keep going.
